Kerosene Place

Oil on Canvas        24 x 30        1985         Morristown, NJ
“This was going to be called “Hillside Place” in an ode to where I was painting at the time, (163 Western Ave.). However the morning after a large party in the house, I came down to find the painting had been impaled on the nozzle of my 5 gallon Sears kerosene can (my primary source of studio heat). So what do you do with a canvas with a hole in it? Rename it and declare the nozzle a permanent part of the art. The nozzle was temporarily recalled to service during our 11 days in the dark and cold after Super Storm Sandy, and is still out in the shed.”
