“Less a homage than a inquiry. I imaged creating an object that starts with a large, Rothko like work. Split and cut into an odd number of pieced, it would be sewn back together with the unpainted edges in, pushing the now disjointed color fields to the sides. A surgical re-definition of the familiar. Originally imagined with a Pollock, but a Rothko image offered a better sense of symmetry.”
