Oil on Canvas 56 x 33 1985 Morristown, NJ
“Armed Forces Day, June 1985, Berlin. Pomp, bluster, and British Challenger Tanks covered in baby oil to make them look shiny. In the mean time, the tourists making their way through the 35 yards of Checkpoint Charlie no mans land were prone to having suddenly having machine guns pointed at them as Allied helicopters swoop in low just to upset the East Germans. All part of the Armed Forces Day/Cold War – lets have some fun- Bluster Dance. After freezing in place for an eternity (probably about 10 seconds), we kept going and walked in to the living history diorama that was Cold War Berlin, Soviet Sector. In retrospect, I like to think that that machine gun was loaded.”
