“This was my first painting after returning from Europe in August 1985. I did not get to Torino on my travels, but had wanted to. For some reason, for the first couple of weeks, I thought more about what I didn’t get to see than I did all that I did get to see. I felt enigmatic, out of place, as if I had been away for years, not just months. It was probably just a way of processing it all.”
